Moon Senshi Germany Campaign Update
So, right now, it's looking like Ventrilo is our most likely option. This isn't set in stone yet, but it is my prefferred option and multiple players have expressed a strong preference for this option.

If you CANNOT use Ventrilo, but would like VERY MUCH to be in the game, let me know NOW.

If you haven't heard, I'm starting up the Germany campaign again. If you're interested, please say something! There are still a few people who were in the old game that haven't said anything.

The Germany campaign is OPEN. That means that ANYONE can be in it, as long as I don't hate them and they can make games regularly.

So.

What is Ventrilo? Ventrilo, or Vent, is a VOIP service. That means that we all hook up to a server with headsets or other microphones, and the server transmits our voice into a conference-call like scenario where we can all hear each other. If you've ever played WoW or another MMORPG, you're probably familar with the concept of doing this in raiding. It's a lot like an AIM chat or discussion, only you're speaking instead of typing. If you're certain you're going to be in the game, I recconmend going ahead and downloading it. It has versions for every OS but Linux, and it works with Linux if you download WINE. (I tried this on my Ubuntu machine and it seemed to work nicely.)

Right now I need to start determining people's schedules. When can you make a game (or can't make a game, if that is an easier to communicate statistic)? If you live outside of EST, please tell me so I can adjust for your time zone in determining a schedule.

More info about the game will be forthcoming as I examine who can make it. I will probably build the game around the players who can come.

I will probably be using a stats system this time, probably FUDGE because it's lightweight and easy for me to use. If you don't want to deal with stats, you can give a write-up of your characters powers' and I can make them for you.

Right now all this info is very tentative, so there's still plenty of wiggle room for change.

A few things.

I can use Vetrilo, I think, but I'm not really comfortable with speech-based RP.

I'm not even close to finishing my character revamp.

I'm often RPing in MUSHes at night, which can take away a lot of my concentration when I pose.

Are there rules for FUDGE available somewhere?

1) Can you tell me what it is you find uncomfortable about it?

2) That's fine, I haven't even started an outline for the campaign, so the RPG is not anywhere near close to being run. Right now I'm trying to figure out when I can run a game/how. I doesn't make sense for me to get all up in planning the game (which mostly revolves around the characters) until I know who can make it.

3) If we were to do a real-time role-playing game, I would most likely ask that you refrain from other activities while playing--unless, of course, you weren't in the scene being RPed.

4) Yes. There's a build of it I would use whose rules aren't entirely available online, but I would post the relevant changes etc. online for everyone to read. It is a very simple, free-form system, and I rarely do dice rolls except in combat situations (and not always then.) Oftentimes the combat is made, with the assistance of my husband, to be extremely automated.

Fudge website: http://www.fudgerpg.com/fudge.html

you can download the rules for free.

1. I'm extremely phone-shy. This is really similar to talking on a phone. Secondly, it's a lot harder for me to be in character with my voice than by text.

2. OK.

3. Problematic. I can't always say when important scenes will take place. Often, yeah, I'm fine with passing on stuff but sometimes there's stuff that I want to or should attend. A more flexible date for gaming nights would help, actually. Don't always have it, like, Friday night. Also, I'll be starting school in late August anyway, so a fixed date wouldn't always be good anyway.

4. Are we using specific stats? I assume this is point-buy from skimming it. What's the houserules?

1) Personally, I don't really find Ventrilo much like talking on a phone; I find it much more like talking in real-life. But then, the part about calling on phones that makes me most uncomfortable is the calling itself. So you may have a point.

One of the problems right now is that I have some players who are like "Ventrilo is no good, forums are okay" and some other players who are like "I'd rather not do a forum, but Ventrilo sounds good." I absolutely cannot do IRC, since one of my players has a medical condition that makes typing for extended periods of time unfeasible.

I'm pretty wary of running another Forum game. I have yet to see a Forum game pan out, and I have run fixed time games that pan out. Usually, when there's a fixed time, people feel responsible for showing up; if it's a Forum game, I fear people will, even with "post or we move on" not take the idea very seriously.

That, and Fiona, the character who you said would have to be in the game for you to play, strongly prefers a voice chat game over a forum game.

3. I have never had an in-person game work that didn't have a fixed date that had more than two or three players. People's schedules just tend to collide too much...but I'll keep that in mind.

3. I'd have to look at the posted rules vs. the HeartQuest build I use in more depth. I know that there are five stats in HeartQuest instead of three (willpower, cool, appearance, physique, mind) and there's a rules set for magical powers. (basically, you tell the GM what you want your power to be and they approve/disapprove of it, and you assign a certain number of skill points based on how good at it you want to be. It's actually extremely freeform.)

Right now I'm mostly at the stage where I'm trying to get people's reactions/opinions on how to run the game. It doesn't seem to be working...

Hhokay. As far as Vent goes, I'm in favor but will need a bit of leeway in the beginning as it's new (...and I need to buy a headset. Little details). Availability, my work schedule varies day by day, week by week, etc, so I can work with flexible games or set games, I'd just have to call scheduling and say 'I shan't be taking client requests tomorrow, and no amount of sexual favor will change my mind. Begone!', which isn't actually that far from my normal conversations with them. I'd prefer set dates on the grounds that it's easier to keep tabs on, but I'm good for either.

FUDGE sounds good; I haven't used it in many moons, but I can settle back to it. I am always gonna stand by Tri-stat, though. It's my baby. Even if it is discontinued, I've never found a free form system as readily adaptable as BESM, especially BESM3.
