a quick note on the "artist as surgeon" analogy...

it's a bad one.

DON'T GET ME WRONG, I AGREE THAT ARTISTS GET SHAT ON.

But a surgeon's work doesn't resemble an artists' at all. Surgeons have a lot of overhead, they have a whole team working for them. A surgeon is not a single person at home, he requires a sterile environment with a shit load of expensive equipment.

A better example would be an accountant or a lawyer. These professions

a) are performed by one person, with *comparatively* less expensive tools
b) are highly valued
c) are highly skilled and well-trained
d) involve working sitting down for long periods

like artists, with the exception of being "highly valued." We value and pay these people a lot for their services, like a Surgeon, but their services are much more comparable to an artists' services than a Surgeon, an occupation which admittedly has a lot of "shock value" since it is SO highly skilled and well-paid, but which doesn't much resemble an artists' work and is likely to make an artists' argument be taken un-seriously as some "damn artist angsting about how their fun little job is tuff stuff." This would make me sad since I *do* think artists are worth taking seriously, so it's important that they have the argumentative tools to do so. My husband and I are working on a card game, and while we don't have the capital to pay artists what they deserve straight up, we are giving the artists 100% of the profits of the first set if it ever gets printed. So even if the situation isn't ideal, I feel like we're at least trying to make good wherever we can on the whole "gives us art for freez kthx" thing.

Whew, for the first time, I feel like I"m getting a bit of flow going.

I always love writing couple scenes, regardless of which couple it is. The dynamic of writing two people falling in love (or two people in love) is always so interesting, because when two people have that kind of chemistry together, they bounce off each other and create more character development than a scene with just the one of them.

I dunno. Love changes people, I and I find that fascinating. Anyway, I just finished a Tokimo Coeus scene, and it's funny because John was originally like, "how are you ever going to make those two work as a couple now that Coeus is such a douche?" but he's all about it now. It's kind of awesome. <3

And yay for reasonable turnaround time. I think it was...three months ish? Not super duper awesome, but for 20k words that's pretty good iMO.

Also, I FINALLY drew the frontpage image for when I re-vamp the site. THAT THING NEEDS A FACELIFT GODDANGIT.

Ruth and Herbert, respectively. Me and John have the "greatest generation first names as middle names" thing covered.

almost 10 years.

3. How long did you know each other before you started dating?
2 months.

4. Who asked who out?
John asked me out. At first I refused him and we angsted, but eventually I relented.

5. How old are each of you?
I'm 23 and John is 25.

6. Did you go to the same school?
Yes.

7. Who is the smartest?
It's hard to say; our intelligences are zoned in different areas. John sees the defining trait of intellect as analytical intelligence--in that case, John is smarter (although John says my analytical skills are still better than most people.) But overall, our intelligence is zoned in different areas; John is more mathematical/spatial and I'm more linguistic/creative.

8. Who is the most sensitive?
Definitely me.

9. Where do you eat out most as a couple?
Joyce's (Chinese), Tiny Thai (Thai), India House (Indian). I like to go to American Food places, but I have yet to find somewhere that me and John agree that we like consistently.

10. Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
We've never gone anywhere as a couple, only on family trips. John isn't much for travel, and our family goes on quite a lot of vacations so that I don't really feel that I need to go on a special trip just with John.

Neither of us have exes. John was my first love.

I do. Although John cooked when we were in college.

Me. Neither of us are very social, though.
